A nasty surprise under the boot!

It looks to me as if a rough-and-ready accident repair has been carried out at some time. The tube joining the chassis is surely not original - at least not in that state?

Also, note that the chassis members are extended by an 18" piece of angle iron (was the chassis chopped off during a repair?), and that the wood supporting the boot floor does not lie straight along the left-hand chassis member, but is set at an angle.
