New bearer in a trial fit.
Note the taper. The bearer is just under 4" at the highest point (about 9" from this end) and then tapers to about 3".
I shall not fix it permanently in place yet, because I want easy access to the chassis, but if I prepare it fully I can work out where the wheel arch (which attaches to it) will fit, and work on some of the cross-bearers.
