Lip being added

Lip beind added

The original piece of steel had a 1/2" lip at the top. I chose not to form a lip on the steel itself but to add a length of angle afterwards. Simpler, cheaper, and slightly stronger, since I am using thicker angle.

On the left you can see the pillar which was lengthened by welding in a short section.

I have removed the end 6" from the bearer so that I can graft in a new piece of ash. The old piece had greatly enlarged holes, and since I need to fit a strengthener to it, attaching to the panel, I needed to make sure the joint was a strong one. This part of the frame is taking a lot of the weight!
