First new pillar in place

Back

In place!

In place at last! When I eventually persuaded Bob to visit the new pillar was in place within 30 minutes. I had already cut the base of the old pillar free, and once an acrow-prop was in place, Bob cut away the old pillar leaving a few inches at the top.

Of course ideally we would have removed the old pillar altogether and fitted the new one to the roof, but this would mean removing the roof and disturbing the timbers and this is an area I do not wish to venture into for now.

Bob then cut the new pillar to length, lining up the bend with the other pillars, and gas-welded it into place, attaching it top and bottom.

This is a major step forward, and gives me confidence we can tackle the other pillars in the same way!
